Step one

Welcome to my blog! I’m Mariella and this blog is about my journey to LA where I’ll be doing an acting workshop for two months. With blog I’ll keep you updated during my adventure in the City of Angels. First, I’m gonna tell you how I’ve come to this choice. Well, I’ve always lived by the rules: finished high school, got a Master degree at the age of 22 and got straight into a full-time professional job. My career was growing pretty fast at the company I worked for. Every year I’ve got promoted. In the end I was working as a marketing and communication counselor in the online division. Due to a car accident in January 2013, I wasn’t able to work for almost six months. Those months were terrible, because I couldn’t get out of the house and couldn’t live my normally fun and busy life. That was very depressing. Meanwhile I realized that the job I had, wasn’t the job I dreamt of. I just got carried away by the standards of Dutch society. So… I had the urge to start off on a different tack and live my dreams. And I just did it!

The American dream

I’ve always dreamt of a life in LA. It’s just the perfect city for me: big, sunny, glamorous, restless, busy, but at the same time so laid back. I simply love it <3
But, it’s not easy to move to LA. You can’t go there and simply start looking for a job because you will need a (work) visa. And it’s definitely not easy to get an American visa. Then I thought about doing a study/workshop. Since I’ve always worked on my business career, I thought it was time to do something more fun and creative. In 2011 I participated on the show “De Bachelor” and I really liked being in front of the camera. Plus I have a lot of affection with the entertainment/media business. So why not give acting classes a shot. And in what better place on earth can you learn more about acting and movies than Hollywood?!

I found an acting workshop at the New York Film Academy (NYFA). It’s located just behind Universal Studios en Warner Bros Studios, the heart of the film industry. In two months I’m gonna learn the basic acting skills and do a small movie project. It’s gonna be a very intensive program of five to six days a week, but I’m really excited! I hope to get a role (either big or small ;)) in a Hollywood movie at the end of my journey.

In these upcoming months in LA I want to figure out if an acting career is the career I’m looking for. And if not, I’m sure something else will cross my path to get closer to find my passion and doing what I love. At the same time I’m really looking forward to meet new people and have a blast!
